Revolutionizing upscaling: ML-powered quality improvements

AMD FSR 4 marks a significant leap forward from its predecessor, FSR 3, by integrating machine learning (ML) techniques into its upscaling process. This advancement allows FSR 4 to achieve substantial improvements in image fidelity, sharpening the finer details with remarkable precision. By utilizing ML algorithms, FSR 4 can intelligently predict and compensate for lost pixels during low-resolution rendering, thereby providing gamers with high performance and crisp, high-definition visuals that are just as good as native.

Expanding horizons: over 85 supported games

With the latest AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition™ 25.9.1 driver update, AMD FSR 4 extends its reach to cover more than 85 popular gaming titles. This extensive support ensures that a vast array of players can experience the benefits of FSR 4 firsthand, enjoying visually arresting landscapes and detailed character models without sacrificing frame rates. The inclusion of ML-upscaling in such a broad lineup of games speaks to both the versatility and the relevance of FSR 4 in today’s gaming ecosystem.

Seamless integration: getting started

Enabling AMD FSR 4 with our driver upgrade feature in supported games is straightforward. By updating your AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver, you automatically unlock access to this cutting-edge technology on your AMD Radeon™ RX 9000 Series graphics card. Simply enable FSR 3.1 within the supported game and ensure the FSR 4 toggle is turned on from the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition application. This last step allows the driver to override the FSR 3.1 game implementation with the latest version of FSR 4. There are a few things to note about AMD FSR 4 support in our updated 25.9.1 driver:

  • Our FSR 4 driver upgrade feature is only compatible with games that support DirectX® 12 and have integrated a signed FSR 3.1 DLL according to the guidelines in our FSR 3.1 documentation for developers.
  • FSR 4 is not compatible with FSR 3.1 titles that run on the Vulkan® API or use non-standard methods of integration of FSR 3.1 into their games, such as using third-party plug-ins or methods that do not use the signed FSR 3.1 DLL.

For a full list of AMD FSR 4 titles confirmed to be compatible with our driver upgrade feature, check out this link.

AMD FSR 4 for developers

Developers can use our new AMD FidelityFX™ SDK 2.0. to natively integrate FSR 4.0.2 into their games for AMD Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards, in addition to FSR 3.1 (if it was not already supported) for upscaling support on other AMD graphics hardware. When a native AMD FSR 4 game integration is available, gamers will no longer need to enable the driver upgrade feature to use FSR 4, just select it in-game, but the requirements for FSR 4 are the same, an AMD RDNA™ 4 architecture graphics card and the game using DirectX® 12. For developers, a key benefit of natively integrating AMD FSR 4 into their games using the new SDK 2.0 is that it prepares them to support other upcoming neural rendering technologies, such as those in FSR Redstone. One additional exciting feature of the FSR 4 API is that it will allow for our driver to continue to upgrade the FSR 4 version integrated in-game to future updates of FSR 4 without requiring developers to patch their games.

Experience neural rendering now

AMD FSR 4 ensures that gamers have access to the highest quality graphics without sacrificing frame rates. This innovation marks a new era of neural rendering where high-definition visuals seamlessly integrate into a wide array of gameplay and with our AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.9.1 driver, it just got better.
