Radeon ProRender

Updated plug-ins now available!

The Radeon™ ProRender team have updated our plug-ins with new and improved features useful for artists.

We have added some improvements to the RPR Interactive mode. This Vulkan® ray-tracing renderer is now even faster, with better support for lights and materials. Additionally there are new nodes for doing edge bevels and double-sided materials.

The Maya® plug-in gains support for Maya 2023 (as well as continued support for Maya 2022 and Maya 2021). For the Blender® add-on, we are adding support for Blender 3.3 and 3.4. Houdini® gains support for Houdini 19.5.

Radeon ProRender v3.5.0 add-on for Blender

New features

  • Support for Blender 3.3 and Blender 3.4 has been added, including support for the new hair system.
  • The RPR Interactive mode has been improved with the following developments:
    • Better support for more shader node types.
    • Even faster rendering with optimized settings out of the box.
    • Hair rendering support.
    • More AOVs supported.
    • Support for OpenColorIO texture spaces.
    • Shadow Catcher support.
    • Per face materials are supported.
    • IES lights are now supported.
  • A new Bevel Shader node has been added. This can be used to create small rounded edges on objects. In the physical world, objects rarely have completely sharp edges like polygons. Using this node will enhance the details of artists’ renders.
  • Support for the Double Sided node has been added, which allows attaching a different shader to each side of an object mesh.
  • The “Pixel Filter” (anti-aliasing) setting for the RPR Final mode has been re-enabled.

Bugs fixed:

  • Contour outline settings using the “UV threshold” for setting the Outline have been fixed.
  • The Temperature, Velocity, and Heat settings in the Principled Volume Shader node have been fixed. Attributes are now supported as well.
  • Fixed an issue where smoke simulations were scaled incorrectly.
  • OpenVDB sequences of files are now supported.
  • Hair Particle type exporting has been optimized.
  • The issue has been fixed where a “halo” could appear around objects with a shadow catcher or reflection catcher attached.
  • Emissive objects with transparent shadows could cast the wrong shadow — fixed.
  • Reflection catcher was not “catching” emission lights — fixed.

Known issues:

  • In some scenes, the hardware feature Smart Access Memory can cause slower renders with the RPR Final mode.

Radeon ProRender v3.4.0 plug-in for Maya

New features

    • Better support for more shader node types.
    • Even faster rendering with optimized settings out of the box.
    • Hair rendering support.
    • More AOVs supported.
    • Support for OpenColorIO texture spaces.
    • Shadow Catcher support.
  • A new RPR Ramp node type has been added.
  • The “Pixel Filter” (anti-aliasing) setting for RPR Final has been re-enabled.

Bugs fixed:

  • The issue has been fixed where a “halo” could appear around objects with a shadow catcher or reflection catcher attached.
  • Emissive objects with transparent shadows could cast the wrong shadow — fixed.
  • Reflection catcher was not “catching” emission lights — fixed.
  • The issue has been fixed where the IPR or viewport render could restart in an infinite loop.
  • Ray Epsilon now automatically corrects to the scene scale.
  • Swatch Rendering could leak memory — fixed.
  • RPR Uber shaders with transparency now show correctly in Maya’s Viewport 2.
  • RPR Volume can now use the “Temperature” setting for emission.
  • During scene export for rendering, the progress bar is now updated and better statistics are reported at the end of the render.
  • Added the “W” parameter to arithmetic nodes (4th channel for vectors).
  • Light linking would not work for blend nodes with toon materials connected — fixed.
  • Issues with IPR not reacting with smooth meshes in the scene have been fixed.

Radeon ProRender 2.3.0 for Houdini and USD plug-in

New features

  • Support for Houdini 19.5 has been added.
  • Support for USD 22.05 has been added.
  • The RPR Interactive mode has been improved with the following developments:
    • Better support for more shader node types.
    • Even faster rendering with optimized settings out of the box.
    • Hair rendering support.
    • More AOVs supported.
    • Support for OpenColorIO texture spaces.
    • Now supported on Linux.
    • Instance and Object ID AOVs are now supported.

Bugs fixed

  • The RPR Interactive mode’s ray depths settings are now correctly applied when rendering.
  • Files that have relative paths to textures are now processed correctly.
  • A setting for Pixel Filter (antialiasing) has been added.
  • The USD setting for scene units is now supported correctly This is applied to transforms and the Depth AOV. In Houdini the compositing with the background grid in the viewport is now correct.
  • Vertex color primitive variables are now supported, in particular the “Display Color” setting.
  • The first UV channel (even if not named “st”) is now exported and used.
  • The speed of exporting MaterialX files has been improved greatly.
  • Tiled rendering with Perspective Cameras now works correctly.
