AMD has supported GPU rendering for content creation with Radeon™ ProRender, and now we would like to share the next evolution of that support, which will enable more collaborative 3D creation and rendering: AMD RenderStudio.

Powered by Radeon™ ProRender for rendering, AMD RenderStudio is a set of tools for cross-user collaboration using the OpenUSD and MaterialX ecosystem. Artists using tools like Autodesk® Maya® or Blender can work on scenes while other users get instant updates. We even include a 3D file viewer and editor, which enables viewing and collaborating on USD files without any other content creation tools. All of the collaboration tools are available open source and free as well as permissively licensed.

Inspired by online document collaboration tools, we feel this is an important technology goal to bring to 3D content creation. Especially with emerging technologies like the metaverse and machine learning-based content creation, being able to easily author, collaborate, and share 3D content is crucial. Our goal is to work with other vendors to implement similar technology in their applications.

Today, we are releasing the AMD RenderStudio Kit, along with the necessary plug-in to USD to work and connect to the included RenderStudio server and the viewer application. We are also updating our USD-based Blender, SideFX® Houdini™, and Maya® plug-ins for automatically connecting to a RenderStudio Server on your network. Check it out today.
